Chatbox

πŸ’¬ Chatbox Guide

The in-game chatbox is an essential tool for communication and command input, but by default, it is disabled for typing to maintain immersion and promote realistic voice-based roleplay.

To interact via chat, you will need to use specific commands. Below is a breakdown of the available chat functions and how to use them responsibly.

πŸ“ OOC Chat (/ooc)

/ooc [your message]

Out-of-Character (OOC) chat is used for communication that falls outside of the current roleplay scenario.

βœ… Appropriate Use of OOC:

  • Mentioning or contacting a player who is no longer in your local area
  • Requesting assistance for game-breaking bugs or technical issues (e.g. falling through the map, stuck in a locked building)
  • Reporting personal client-side issues such as "head problems"
  • Requesting a player to attend QE (Quality Evaluation) in Discord (only after a situation has ended)

❌ Misuse of OOC:

  • Discussing or continuing roleplay scenes
  • Arguing or debating in active scenes
  • Calling out suspected cheaters or hackers (use Discord's Emergency Help Request instead)

Misuse of /ooc will result in a verbal warning, and repeat offences may lead to a chat cooldown or further administrative action.

🧭 Local OOC (/looc)

/looc [your message]

Local OOC sends a message to players nearby (within voice range), and is used primarily for informative or corrective purposes.

βœ… Appropriate Use of LOOC:

  • Warning players of a potential rulebreak or poor RP
  • Asking for minor help from nearby players
  • Requesting local players to attend QE (once the scene has ended)

As with /ooc, /looc should not be used to continue or explain in-character actions.

🎯 Pinging Player IDs in Chat

You can ping a player’s server ID in chat to get their attention. This is especially helpful when requesting QE or needing to reach someone not in your local area.

Usage Example:

  • Replace 1 with the player's in-game ID
  • Only use this for constructive purposes such as QE, clarification, or technical issues
  • Misuse of pinging (e.g., harassment or spam) will result in staff action being taken

❗ Quality Evaluation (QE)

QE is a neutral, post-scenario discussion space found in our Discord. It allows players to discuss RP scenes in a respectful and constructive manner.

  • QE requests can be made via /ooc or /looc
  • A situation must be fully concluded before QE is requested
  • Players may decline a QE request

⌨️ Using Commands via Chat

Most in-game commands are executed through the chatbox.

  • Press T to open the chatbox
  • Type the desired command (starting with /)
  • Press Enter to submit

Use chat responsibly to maintain the immersive, respectful, and engaging environment we all enjoy on BritishRP.
